Volunteer Tree Care Day — Forest Park

Over 40 volunteers joined us for a tree care and mulching day at Forest Park, helping to maintain recently planted trees and improve growing conditions across the park.

Forest Park is one of Springfield's most beloved green spaces — and it's home to hundreds of trees planted by ReGreen Springfield over the past decade. Keeping those trees healthy requires ongoing care, and our volunteer stewards make that possible.

During the event, volunteers worked in small teams to:

• Remove grass and weeds from around tree bases
• Apply fresh wood chip mulch to retain moisture and protect roots
• Water trees that showed signs of drought stress
• Inspect trees for signs of pest damage or disease
• Remove stakes and ties from trees that had established strong root systems

We were thrilled to welcome over 40 volunteers — including families, students, and longtime ReGreen Springfield supporters. Events like this are a reminder of how much a community can accomplish when it comes together around a shared goal.
